Echo Park A Slice of Summer - Using Chipboard Frames

Today I am on the Papermaze blog with another project using Echo Park's A Slice of Summer collection.

In my latest DT kit, Vanessa kindly included a pack of the Chipboard Frames which are part of this collection. I was a little daunted by these at first but, after seeing a photo on the internet from an advert for Chipboard Frames where the seller had opened the packet and laid them higgledy-piggledy on top of each other I had a flash of inspiration.

I started with a sheet of the Hello Summer Floral paper. The B side of this paper is a nice light woodgrain print and, as I've mentioned before that I love a woodgrain print, this was an obvious choice for my base. I trimmed roughly ½" off of two of the adjacent edges and matted this onto a piece of the Summer Floral Paper. 

I laid out the chipboard frames onto the layout overlapping them and leaving a space for my photo. Once I was happy with the placement of the frames I decided, that rather than glue some on top of others, that I would cut them apart and link them together flat on the layout. The frames cut fairly easily and were stuck to the page with a liquid glue. My photo was then matted onto some of the Summer Floral paper and attached flat to the space I had left for it in the top left corner of the layout.

I used die cuts from the pack of ephemera icons to embellish the layout by sticking them on top of the frames. I added some 3D foam underneath some parts of the die cuts to make sure they sat level on the frames.

The pack of Chipboard frames also includes some other chipboard pieces and so some of these were also used on the layout including one to the corner of the photo.

I found some  wood veneer bicycles in my stash, and these were the perfect addition to the layout. After sticking down the bicycles I realised that the chipboard frames looked a little bit like little winding roads or paths, which was very appropriate for a layout of Lara riding her bike down a path.

A journalling strip typed on the computer was added to the bottom of the layout.

As a finishing touch I added a scattering of blue sequins.

Scrapology - November Layout Challenge

This month on Scrapology the team has been inspired by a lovely layout by Australian Scrapbooker Michelle Logan and as an added challenge have all incorporated chipboard in their layouts

For my layout I used a photo of my daughter riding the carousel at the Needles Park on the Isle of Wight. 

I used a mix of patterned papers on my layout from Crate Paper (cream base), Websters (brown spot), Bo Bunny (brown swirl) and Dream Street Papers (memo). I also added a page from an old book behind the photo. The chipboard swirl was from Fancy Pants. 

I embellished the layout with a crochet doilie, a tag, a brad, a button, a mini postcard downloaded and printed from the Internet, a paper flower and some heart pins. 

My title was cut on the Craft Robo using a cutting file from the Silhouette Online Store and I used some Simple Stories alphabet stickers for my journalling.

For the circle on Michelle's layout she used paint and inks. I decided to create a circle of plat backed pearls using a Crafters Workshop 'Dots all Around' stencil to make sure the pearls were placed evenly.
