Echo Park A Slice of Summer - Summer Memories

Here is my  first layout for the Papermaze Blog using Echo Park's A Slice of Summer collection. The layout I'm sharing today features a photo of me taken one summer when I was a child. The photo was originally an old style transparency slide but I was able to make quite a good copy of it by laying it on my light box and taking a photo of it.

I started with a piece of 11¾" x 11¾" white textured Bazzil Cardstock which I matted in the corner of a sheet of the Squeeze the Day paper so that pieces of the paper showed on two edges. I distressed the edges of the white cardstock and machine stitched all the way around using white thread.

I cut a  9" x 8" piece of the Fun in the Sun paper, distressed and machine stitched the edges and attached it to the centre of the layout at an angle.

I then cut a 9" x 8" piece of the Lemons paper and sliced this into 1.5" strips. I distressed and machine stitched the edges of each paper strip and then pieced  the strips back together on top of the blue paper leaving a slight gap between each piece.

My photo was matted onto some more of the Fun in the Sun paper and placed on the Lemons paper.

Underneath the photo I tucked some white paper doilies and a tag, and on the corner of the photo I added a Chipboard Sun Shine from the Chipboard Frames pack. I added a red reinforcing ring to the tag to pick up on the red in my photo.

From the sheet of Multi Journalling Cards I cut some tabs and tucked these between the strips of the Lemons paper. I put some 3D foam squares underneath the edges to raise them up a little. I wanted to bring some more red into the layout so some scalloped circles were also punched from some of the Summer Floral Paper, folded in half and also tucked under the paper strips.

For the title I used a Glitter Foam Title Sticker from Cocoa Vanilla which I had left over from a  previous DT project.

Finally, I added journalling strips printed on the computer to the bottom of the layout and dotted a few gold sequins around for added sparkle.

Carta Bella Our Travel Adventure - Summer Getaway

Today I have one final bonus layout using the Our Travel Adventure collection from Carta Bella. With people starting to be able to enjoy overseas travel from the UK again, I decided to use a photo on my layout of mum & dad taken a couple of years ago as they were getting ready to jet off to a sunnier clime.

After already creating two layouts from my design team kit I started by trimming roughly a quarter of an inch off of all four sides of the only remaining full sheet of paper I had - the Luggage Tags paper, and matted the B side of this onto a sheet of navy blue cardstock. I then layered strips of the Wanderlust and Travel Strips paper and very narrow strips of the navy blue cardstock on top.

A 4x6 photo was matted onto a piece of the Wanderlust paper (B side), then onto a scrap of the B side of the Journaling Cards cut apart paper and finally onto a piece of the navy blue cardstock. The matted photo was then placed on the left of the layout with 3D foam underneath for added dimension. I added a piece of knotted ribbon below the photo and a journaling strip typed on the computer.

I matted three of the journaling cards onto white cardstock and a fourth card with an image of a passport was made into a card which when open reveals hidden journaling. I added a ribbon tab to the side of that card to make it easier to open. The four cards were then cascaded down the side of the layout with 3D foam underneath.

The title words were die cut from yellow and navy blue cardstock and nestled together.

Two word strips were cut from the Travel Strips paper and placed below the title.

The layout was completed with the addition of a wood veneer plane, from my stash, to the tail of the letter Y.

A Few Cards

I've been making a few cards recently.  I find cardmaking quite relaxing and I like the smaller size of a 6x6 card compared to the sometimes daunting 12x12 scrapbook page. The cards have been fairly simple and quick to make and mainly I've made them from scraps from my craft room.

The first card I made was a new baby card for a friend who has become a grandma for the first time.

I used an image downloaded from the Internet and embellished with lace, stars and lettering die cut from glittery fun foam and sequins.

The next card was a birthday card for a crafty friend.

I layered patterned papers and gold glitter card. I added a card from a Pink Paislee cut apart sheet and stars die cut from gold glitter card.

Finally, today I made a card for no particular person. I just felt like making something.

Once again I layered pieces of patterned paper and this time used gold mirror card too.  A card from a Simple Stories cut apart sheet was added and some gold die cut stars. I finished the card off with some Card Candi.

I've noticed I use stars quite a lot!
